Gift Orban is set to begin a new chapter in his career after Lyon confirmed his departure to Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim for a fee of €9million on Thursday.
The Nigerian only joined Les Gones in January 2024 from Gent, but he struggled to nail down a regular place in the starting line-up under Pierre Sage.
Orban scored just once in 13 Ligue 1 appearances last term and has only featured three times this season, with his last outing coming against Marseille on September 22.
The 22-year-old striker, who bagged a brace in the 4-3 win over Strasbourg on August 30, has now decided to go in search of a new challenge in Germany and Hoffenheim director Andreas Schicker has welcomed his arrival at the PreZero Arena.
“In Gift Orban we have found exactly the fast striker… that we were looking for,” Schicker said. “We are convinced that his skills will give our team greater variety in attack.”
Orban will be hoping the move to Hoffenheim can revive his career after impressive stints in Norway and Belgium with Stabæk and gent respectively as he sets his sights in winning a maiden call-up to the Super eagles squad ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
