CAF reacts after referee Kabugo dies during UPL match

Assistant referee Peter Kabugo passed away after collapsing during a Ugandan Premier League match between SC Villa and UPDF FC on Friday evening.
This overshadowed the match which ended in a 5-0 win in favour of Villa at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium in Kampala where Kabugo collapsed in the 73rd minute.
A few minutes later it was confirmed that Kabugo had died on the way to the hospital and the Ugandan football fraternity is mourning the death of the 32-year-old.
The African football governing body has since issued the following statement regarding the incident.
“The Confédération Africaine de Football ("CAF") President Dr Patrice Motsepe is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Uganda Premier League match official, Peter Kabugo who collapsed during a football league match at Wankulukuku Stadium in Uganda,” a statement read.
“The CAF President Dr Motsepe conveys his and CAF's deepest condolences to the family of Peter Kabugo, Federation of Ugandan Football ("FUFA") and its President, Moses Magogo and Ugandan people.
“May Peter Kabugo's soul rest in eternal peace.”
