Lazio coach reflects on Dele-Bashiru's progress

Lazio manager Marco Baroni provided an assessment of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru as he returned from injury in the team's 1-1 draw against Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening.

Lazio’s advancement to the quarter-finals for the first time in seven years was highlighted by Dele-Bashiru’s notable performance which impressed the coach.

“Dele-Bashiru also returned even if he is not at his best,” Baroni told reporters at the post-match press conference, according to All Nigeria Soccer.

He stressed that having the player back in the squad was vital, even if he weren’t fully fit.

Baroni emphasised that “When you are on the home straight, finding this type of player is fundamental” and having experienced players like Dele-Bashiru is crucial as Lazio faces tougher matches ahead.

Dele-Bashiru’s return to Lazio is a significant boost as they pursue domestic and European success, despite him not being fully recovered.

His recovery is ongoing after missing out on Nigeria’s final squad for the World Cup qualifiers, but he remains focused on regaining full fitness and potentially earning future call-ups.
