The Likes of Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs were under the spotlight in the most recent set of Betway Premiership fixtures this week, with the Buccaneers suffering defeat at the hands of Cape Town City, while Kaizer Chiefs earned maximum points against Stellenbosch FC.
Beginning in the Mother City, Orlando Pirates suffered a 1-0 defeat against Cape Town City in their latest league assignment that took place at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday night.
Fresh off a win against Kaizer Chiefs, City battled to fend off a well-drilled Bucs outfit who were eager to leave the Mother City with maximum points. However, Darwin Gonzalez had other plans as the Venezuelan star scored the only goal of the game in the 74th minute.
In what was most frustrating for Pirates, Patrick Maswanganyi missed a penalty moments before Gonzalez took the lead while they struggled to get into the game thereafter.
Elsewhere, Kaizer Chiefs were made to work for their first points of the year after recording a 2-1 win against Stellenbosch at the FNB Stadium.
Moans and groans sounded through Calabash after Khomotjo Lekolane gave Stellenbosch the lead in the 20th minute mark. However, the Glamour Boys kicked into gear and levelled matters just eight minutes later, thanks to a timely effort by Wandile Duba.
Duba then put his side ahead in the 57th minute after beating the offside trap en-route to goal before slotting the ball from a tight angle inside the Stellenbosch 18-yard-area.
The victory saw Kaizer Chiefs move into 5th position, while Stellenbosch slumped to 7th place.
