Friday Cannon Fodder: hodgepodge
Good Friday morning, TSFers! I hope your week went well and you've got a relaxing weekend on tap. We're expecting possible snow this weekend into a polar vortex to start next week (temperatures in the single digits), so under the throw blankets on my couch, cuddled with my dog is an extremely appealing spot. I've got a mish-mash, a smorgasbord, if you will, of stuff today.
This morning, I woke myself up from one of my recurring, unpleasant dreams. I say woke myself up because, fortunately, I was close enough to waking that I was aware of the dream and able to pull myself out of it. I was being forced to take a test that I was not prepared for. What's worse was that as I was taking this test, I discovered that some of the pages of the test had not been included in the packet, and I had to complete them with very little time left in the exam session.
I feel as if "unprepared test" is a relatively common bad dream, but it's been a long time since I was in school. It probably means I yearn to be an elephant ruling over a fiefdom of marmosets, or something. Dreams are weird.
What are some of your recurring dreams?
My other piece of miscellany: Jeff Beck's cover of Hallelujah (a version people around my age know because it featured prominently on The O.C.) came on in the car this morning, prompting me to ask the GF whether she was familiar with Leonard Cohen's original. She wasn't. I didn't expect she would be. Older music is not her forte. So we listened to it and enjoyed his deep, soothing tones. Hallelujah has to be one of the more frequently covered songs, but I think Cohen's version is the best.
What are some other songs like that — frequently covered but you can't beat the OG version? Conversely, what are some songs where the cover is better than the original?
Also, Takehiro Tomiyasu has returned from his walkabout (injury recovery away from the team) and has rejoined training.
