Anthony Backhouse refereed at Turf Moor for the first time in November when we beat Coventry 2-0, and tonight he is back for our televised home game against Sunderland.

The Coventry game was the first time he'd refereed one of our league games to add to the League Cup tie at Salford last season.

Those two performances from him have been without any concerning incidents and it has left him with a RATE THE REF rating of 80.74 out of a hundred and fourth in the current table.

Now in his second season in Select Group 2, thirteen of his twenty games this season have come in the Championship with three in League One, two in League Two and two in the League Cup. Those games have brought a total of eighty yellow and three red cards.

Of those yellows, 41 have gone to home team players and 39 to away team players. The one player he's sent off since last refereeing us was Middlesbrough defender Rav van den Berg in a 3-3 home draw against Sheffield Wednesday in which Middlesbrough had led 3-0.

He's refereed two games since, the last of them coming on the day we won at Ewood. He refereed Hull v Leeds later in the day, another 3-3 draw. There was just the one yellow card in that game, shown to Leeds' Joe Rodon.

Fourth official tonight is James Linington whose one Burnley game this season was the 2-1 home win against Watford on the Saturday before Christmas.
