Marcus Edwards joined Burnley from Sporting late in the winter transfer window.

The right-winger had a turbulent time at the Portuguese club this season, as there were question marks around his attitude and application, leading to a lack of playing time.

So far at Burnley, the Englishman has one goal and one assist in six Championship games and he is showing his quality already.

Record in Portugal have reported today that the 26-year-old is 'unlikely to return' from his loan at Turf Moor in the summer, with the belief Burnley see him as a long term option.

He wore the No.10 at Sporting and because he’s ‘unlikely to return’, it’s going to be offered to Francisco Trincao ahead of next season to try and tempt him to stay.

Scott Parker’s side do not have the option or obligation to buy Edwards permanently, but his contract at Sporting runs out in the summer of 2026. This could suggest that a permanent transfer might suit the Portuguese giants more than another loan.

It remains to be seen how Burnley keep the winger, but he’s not expected back at Sporting.
