Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali 'desperate' for struggling player to come good

Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali is ‘desperate’ for struggling player Mykhailo Mudryk to ‘come good’, according to reports.

The Blues splashed out £88.5 million to sign the Ukraine international winger from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023.

Mudryk is yet to justify such a high price tag, though, with the 23-year-old producing just seven goals and six assists across 63 games to date.

He has struggled for Premier League minutes this term, with Mudryk an unused substitute in three of Chelsea’s five top-flight fixtures so far.

Mudryk, though, has been handed more game time in other competitions, providing his second goal involvement of the season in Tuesday night’s emphatic 5-0 Carabao Cup win over Barrow AFC.

No-one wants to see Mudryk succeed more than Chelsea co-owner Eghbali, who is ‘desperate’ for the Ukrainian to rapidly improve, according to talkSPORT.

It is believed that Eghbali personally led the charge to sign Mudryk, which is why he is so invested in the winger’s development.

Meanwhile, ex-Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has warned Mudryk his ‘time may be up’ and says his former club could be preparing to take a ‘big loss’ on him.

Asked if Mudryk has what it takes to be a success at Stamford Bridge, Johnson told Betfred: ‘We're yet to see it.

‘We've seen flashes of his talent and there’ve been times when he's looked unstoppable, but we haven't seen it often.

‘At the moment, it doesn't look like he's cut out for the Premier League because we would have seen it by now if he was. Maybe his time is up.

‘I've been supportive of him previously, but there's reasons why the managers he's had don't trust him and when he's had the opportunities to play, we've not seen enough from him.

‘Chelsea bought him for a lot of money, so they're either going to have to stick with him or take a big loss on him.’
