Chelsea are hopeful Filip Jorgensen will return to the squad for Thursday's Conference League game against Greek side Panathinaikos.

The summer signing from Villarreal missed the defeat to Liverpool at Anfield after he suffered a suspected concussion whilst on international duty with Denmark U21s.

The 22-year-old has made four appearances for the Blues in the cup competitions this season and will be looking to put pressure on Robert Sanchez.

Following the defeat at Anfield pressure has ramped up on Sanchez and Jamie Carragher believes the Blues must sign a new keeper if they want to compete for the title.

There's a common consensus amongst the fans that Sanchez isn't good enough, but Enzo Maresca said after the Liverpool defeat that Sanchez was doing a fantastic job.

The Blues signed Jorgensen this summer as they believe he's the right fit for how Maresca looks to play, but right now it appears unless Sanchez gets injured or goes through a prolonged run of poor form, he's not going to get an opportunity in the league any time soon.

This is why the cup games are so important for Jorgensen because it gives him an opportunity to show Maresca what he can do and that he deserves a chance in the league.

However, it appears the Dane is facing a race against the clock to be available for the Panathinaikos game after suffering a suspected concussion on international duty.

Journalist Kieran Gill has provided an update on the situation and revealed the Blues hope Jorgensen will be available on Thursday.

He took to X.com and said:

"New: Filip Jorgensen was absent from yesterday's Chelsea squad after suffering suspected concussion with Denmark U21s. He's shown no adverse symptoms since, but club are following FA protocols. Hope is he can return in time for Thursday's Conference League clash vs Panathinaikos.

"Depends on him passing each stage of the FA protocols, but Filip Jorgensen could use Thursday to put pressure on No 1 Robert Sanchez with a good performance vs Panathinaikos."

Jorgesen will hope he's available as opportunities are currently few and far between, but if he does miss the game there's a chance he plays in next Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle.
