Mathys Tel 'decides to leave' Bayern Munich, ignites rumor frenzy — reports

Change of heart?
Mathys Tel was a hot name earlier this transfer window, especially in conjunction with rumors linking Christopher Nkunku to Bayern Munich, with his profile said to fit what our sporting directors were looking for. But Bayern shot that speculation down quite quickly, both internally and publicly, with Tel supposedly not looking to leave either.
However, with just one appearance in the five games since the winter break, and none in the last three, Tel appears to have done a little John Q and got a change of heart. According to Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old has now "decided to leave Bayern in January".
Romano's does not specify whether Tel wants a loan or a transfer, and none of the subsequent reporting has attempted to clarify that either. Perhaps he himself doesn't know. What does seem clear is that Tel's decision has alerted many a front office around Europe, Chelsea among them.
And it would appear that ideally for us, this deal would still involve Nkunku as well, moving the other way, preferably also on a permanent transfer.
This sounds like a major undertaking so late in the window, but there's certainly time for things to get dramatic yet! (Manchester United are among those linked as well, which could yet set up some Alejandro Garnacho dominoes as well.)
Chelsea will now resume talks after Mathys #Tel has decided that he will leave FC Bayern! #CFC
