Chris Sutton and Paul Merson both agree on what the score will be for Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool
Today at 04:15 AM
It’s that time of the week again when pundits across the country give their predictions on the latest Nottingham Forest clash. It’s fair to say that the midweek battle is a big one.
Forest face Liverpool in a Premier League game for the ages. No, this isn’t the seventies anymore but a win for the Reds tonight might just have some supporters dreaming of a title challenge.
Back when Brian Clough and Bob Paisley were leading Forest and Liverpool respectively, this was commonplace in football. A game between the two sides was always one of the biggest the country would see all season – think Liverpool vs Manchester City in the modern era.
Tonight’s game is extremely significant. Arne Slot has been talking about Forest – again – and it would appear that he has revenge in his sights after the Reds stunned Anfield and won there in September.

Paul Merson and Chris Sutton predict Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool
With Forest flying high this season, Sutton is hellbent on telling everyone who will listen that he used to follow the fortunes of the club when he was growing up in Nottingham.
He’s made his prediction for BBC Sport and it would appear that pundits are finding it quite tricky to make a call that goes against Forest given the team’s current form.
He said: “Basically this is going to be a very tight game with not many goals in it, and I am not going to back against Forest even if there are many ways where I think Liverpool might sneak a victory here.”
He went on to predict a 1-1 draw between the two teams and it’s a result that has been echoed by Paul Merson.
He told Sportskeeda: “Liverpool were poor when they lost to Forest earlier in the season after an international break. The Reds also needed a late winner in this fixture last season.
“Liverpool weren’t great against Manchester United either, in fact, they were very fortunate to get a draw. It would be disrespectful to Forest if I go against them here, such a tough game for Liverpool.”
Forest have nothing to lose against Liverpool
Make no bones about it, all of the pressure is on Liverpool here. Forest aren’t expected to win despite the recent run of good form but Nuno Espirito Santo will make sure his team have a good go.
Forest can lose tonight and still remain in third and with Southampton on home soil to come next, the Reds can relax, enjoy it and see what happens against the league-leaders tonight.
Naturally, with seven wins in all competitions on the spin, Forest will want to win. On current form, there is no reason why a win can’t be secured and hopefully, the Reds can fly out of the traps and stun Liverpool early.
Whatever happens tonight, it won’t define the season for Forest. Espirito Santo’s men have proved they can cope with setbacks in the past and a packed-out City Ground will be roaring the team on tonight.
