Nottingham Forest did some very strong transfer business during the summer but failed in their attempts to sign another goalkeeper.

It wasn’t until the end of the window that it became apparent that Forest might look at another goalkeeping option.

Carlos Miguel signed for the club for £4 million but he’s been forced to play second fiddle so far to Matz Sels who has established himself as the number one.

Forest made a cheeky attempt to sign Aaron Ramsdale. That move never came to fruition though and he gave his word to Southampton instead.

Other goalkeepers were linked too. A long-term target of Forest’s was Sam Johnstone but it was Wolves who would ultimately sign him before the transfer deadline.

Forest also liked the look of Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool and now a fresh update has come to light on the future of the Anfield deputy.

Nottingham Forest still want Caoimhin Kelleher

Kelleher is the Republic of Ireland number one but it’s fair to say that he needs to get himself out and play some regular club football.

He’s constantly behind Alisson Becker at Liverpool and Arne Slot is showing no signs of letting him grab the gloves.

At 25, the time has surely come for Kelleher to get himself away from Anfield and become a number one somewhere – with Forest still keen.

Nottingham Forest News exclusively spoke with TBR Football’s transfer guru Graeme Bailey and he’s advised fans not to expect a January swoop for the international.

He said: “They want £30m for him it was stated – Kelleher is desperate to move but a January deal does look unlikely at this point.”

Kelleher would be quality for Forest

At 25, the Reds could tie down Kelleher and watch him become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for the next 10 years to be brutally honest.

He’s at a brilliant age for a number one and he does have ample experience playing for Liverpool in cup competitions and fleetingly in the Premier League.

Sels drew praise from Joe Hart for his heroics against Chelsea but he’s 32 now and isn’t going to be around forever.

Brazilian stopper Miguel has very little men’s football to his name and after one Carabao Cup appearance, it’s hard to see him becoming a number one just yet.

Kelleher would be a quality addition to the Forest squad but given the sums and these comments from Bailey, any possible deal might have to wait until the summer.
