Nottingham Forest tried for a number of different players in the summer transfer window, and there were a couple that just didn’t come off.

As much as Nuno Espirito Santo has been praised for his business in the summer transfer window, there were also a couple of setbacks.

Nottingham Forest tried to sign Omar Marmoush in the summer but didn’t want to pay the £28 million fee his parent club were asking for, and now he’s being chased by Liverpool.

He already has 14 goals and ten assists in just 16 games for Eintracht Frankfurt this season.

However, he’s not the only player who Nottingham Forest missed out on, and Graeme Bailey believes a change in direction at the City Ground may have turned his head slightly.

Santiago Gimenez’s head could be turned after Nottingham Forest’s start to the season

Santiago Gimenez rejected a move to Nottingham Forest in the summer, despite a back and forth that looked like he’d end up at the City Ground at one point.

Interestingly, it’s stated that Forest came closest to signing Gimenez. However, the striker was convinced the Reds were going to be involved in a relegation battle.

Judging by his reasoning for not wanting to sign for Nottingham Forest, perhaps there could be a change of heart from the striker.

Well, speaking exclusively to Nottingham Forest News, Graeme Bailey has suggested that there is a possibility that his head may have been turned.

“I don’t think that there is anything to suggest that Forest will revisit it at this point from their part. Obviously Wood is on fire, Taiwo is an interesting one.

“Obviously I don’t think Gimenez will move in January. Quite possibly, Forest are establishing themselves now in the top ten at least, so yeah it does make a difference.

“Forest have gone from being a lower half team and possibly even a favourite for relegation to the top ten, so it will have an impact, the higher you finish the better calibre of players you can sign.

“Whether that impacts on Gimenez, hmmmm, possibly.”

Santiago Gimenez’s season to date at Feyenoord

Santiago Gimenez suffered an upper leg injury earlier this season, which resulted in a recovery period of three months, and he’s still not returned now.

A January move for Gimenez likely would never happen as he’s not played the football and it’s unlikely Forest would want to splash out a big sum in January with potential PSR worries.

In the summer it could be a more realistic option if he impresses in the second half of the season, but the bridges may have been burned already by the striker.

A place in Europe could really open the door for some big moves in the summer, as any fears of relegation from the Premier League are removed from the heads of targets.
