Nottingham Forest claimed a big three points in the Premier League last night as Crystal Palace were beaten 1-0 at the City Ground.

The Reds went into the game having slipped into the bottom half of the table following the other games over the weekend.

Nuno Espirito Santo started a touchline ban for this one but there were no signs of his team suffering as a result of that.

The Reds did ride their luck at times last night. Matz Sels was inspired between the posts for Forest and made seven saves.

Elsewhere, Elliot Anderson was impressive and drew praise from a number of pundits for arguably his best performance in a Forest shirt.

Chris Wood scored the only goal of the game to take his tally to five for the season and it’s hard to keep the £15 million player out of the headlines right now.

Ally McCoist raves about Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood

The striker has been a revelation since the start of the 2023/24 campaign and his 14 Premier League goals last season helped Forest survive.

Now, he’s back on the goal trail and has five for the current campaign to his name.

McCoist knows all about scoring big goals as a renowned goalscorer during his playing days – and he’s a big fan of Wood.

He said on TalkSPORT (22/10; 07:09am): “You get crosses into the box, and you know that Chris Wood would be on the end of it.

“We spoke about him yesterday before the game. He is a handful. He needs deliveries from wide areas, and if he gets them, he will get on the end of them.”

Wood deserves contract extension at Forest

He may now be 32-years-old but he’s fit and perhaps more crucially is scoring goals in the best league in the world.

There have been talks over a new deal for Wood and hopefully, there is some substance in that notion.

Wood looks destined to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League this season and that will be something he’s keen to do.

Forest are somewhat short on striking options and with that in mind, it makes perfect sense to tie Wood down to another contract.

He’s bang in form of late and Espirito Santo will know how important he is to the club when he’s in this sort of form.
