'I can tell you': Journalist says Edu set to steal Arsenal plan to help Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis
Today at 07:30 AM
Evangelos Marinakis has an offer on the table for Edu to take up a role under his multi-club umbrella, and it appears as if he already has a plan in mind.
The news broke recently that Edu would be leaving Arsenal after a successful stint at the Emirates.
Evangelos Marinakis already had one eye on Edu and has even given him an offer to take up a role that could be similar to what Michael Edwards does for Liverpool owners FSG.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that Edu will be doing anything solely on Nottingham Forest, as he could end up trying to strengthen new partnerships, opposed to working on ones already made.
But, having established himself as one of the best club chiefs in the Premier League, his experience would certainly help the Reds reach that next level and open the door to new areas if that’s a role he takes.
Interestingly, despite no deal being confirmed between Marinakis and Edu, it appears as if there’s already a plan in place.
Edu tasked with negotiations over Evangelos Marinakis taking over a Brazilian club
It’s been known that Evangelos Marinakis is looking to add a few more clubs to his current model, with Vasco de Gama one of the clubs that have been mentioned.
Edu is Brazilian himself and built some very strong connections during his time at Arsenal, which helped the Gunners sign the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Marquinhos.
It looks as if Marinakis has highlighted Edu’s strength in that part of the world, as there already appears to be a plan in place if Edu signs on the dotted line.
According to journalist Jorge Nicola, Edu Gaspar is the one who will play negotiations for Marinakis when it comes to trying to buy Vasco de Gama and possibly another club.
"What I can tell you is that Marinakis, through intermediaries, has already reached Vasco, the information that he intends to talk and open negotiations for the purchase of the club," he said.
"Edu Gaspar, who is the one who will play this type of negotiation at this moment, is in Saudi Arabia. So, this negotiation should stay for the next few days.
"Another important thing, exclusive information, Evangelos Marinakis and his son were in the middle of the year in Rio de Janeiro, representing and accompanying the sub-20 team of Olympiacos, which lost the Club World Cup final to Flamengo.
"And both left Rio de Janeiro delighted with the city, with the people and with the football spirit that exists in Rio de Janeiro, which only increases this pretension of having a football team in Brazil and, more specifically, in Rio de Janeiro. I repeat, Edu Gaspar is the one who will play these negotiations.
"And Edu had, last season, while still working with Arsenal, mapped eight Brazilian clubs. He had the opportunity and the idea of establishing a relationship between Arsenal and the Brazilian club. This idea ended up not advancing due to the option of Arsenal's managers.
"I want to tell you that there is a Marinakis negotiation with another team from the Brazilian Championship Serie A. Vasco is not the only one Marinakis talks to."
