Nottingham Forest defeated Liverpool on Saturday to claim all three points in the league at Anfield for the first time since 1969.

The Reds won the day thanks to a stunning goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi with just 18 minutes of the contest remaining.

A number of players would have made worthy shouts for the Man of the Match accolade such was the level of performance from the Forest team.

Whatever Nuno Espirito Santo goes on to achieve at Forest, nobody will ever be able to take this one away from him.

It was a tactical masterclass from the boss and ultimately, he’s proved to the critics that he deserves a chance to get things right at the club.

The head coach has developed a host of players since arriving on Trentside and he will now hope to help Forest to a more comfortable campaign in the Premier League this season.

Martin Keown thinks Nuno Espirito Santo has improved two Forest players

Espirito Santo was dealt a tricky hand when he was appointed as the replacement for Steve Cooper.

The former boss helped Forest end a 23-year wait for Premier League football and then managed to keep the Reds in the top flight.

Now, with Espirito Santo settled at Forest, it’s easy to take stock and see how far Forest have come as a Premier League football club.

Keown was discussing the win over Liverpool earlier this week and he thinks two players have definitely improved under Espirito Santo.

He said on TalkSPORT: “They’re well-drilled, they’re hard to beat. There is a sprinkling of players that we’re used to seeing, Ryan Yates is one of the who Nuno is now getting a tune out of.

“(Morgan) Gibbs-White is another, he’s now an international footballer and he’s growing under a manager who had him at Wolves. He’s definitely getting the best out of him at Forest now.”

Espirito Santo deserves chance to get Forest firing

Whatever happens this season, Espirito Santo should be given the chance to put his own stamp firmly on the club.

Cooper was afforded that luxury and although it ended in tears, nobody can say he wasn’t given ample time by Evangelos Marinakis.

Espirito Santo was a tactical mastermind at the weekend and everything he touched turned to gold when Forest went to Anfield.

His substitutes combined to win the match and now he has some big selection headaches ahead of a trip to Brighton on Sunday.

It’s time for any critics that remain to pipe down. Espirito Santo has now flexed his credentials and Forest fans must now back him all the way as he tries to push the club to the next level.
