Nottingham Forest earned a big three points on Monday Night Football as Crystal Palace were sent back to London empty-handed.

The Reds needed some luck along the way to preserve a third clean sheet of the season and ensure maximum points at the City Ground for the first time.

Matz Sels was in fine form for Forest making a host of saves as Eberechi Eze, Eddie Nketiah and Jeffrey Schlupp all went close.

Forest enjoyed a solid performance on home soil for the first time this season and managed to claim maximum points with a number of players in good form.

Elliot Anderson was praised by Alan Smith for his efforts whilst there were a number of top performances from the man wearing the Garibaldi.

Tim Sherwood hails Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood

The Reds striker is just getting better with each game and supporters are running out of superlative for his efforts.

Wood has now scored 20 goals for Forest in the Premier League and another four will see him draw level with Bryan Roy as the club’s all-time record goalscorer in the division.

Last night, his well-struck effort was fumbled by Dean Henderson who formerly played for Forest on loan, resulting in a goal for the Reds.

After the game, Sherwood praised Forest star Wood for his performance and believes he continues to prove people wrong.

He told Premier League Productions: “Incredible. I'll give him a lot of credit. He missed some chances in the first half but he is scoring a lot of goals for Nuno.

“He continually puts himself on offer. He continues to shoot and continues to get himself into positions to score goals. He leads the line very well.”

Wood deserves new contract and Forest have to act

It doesn’t matter that he’s 32, the fact remains that if he keeps scoring for Forest, other Premier League clubs will come calling when he’s available on a free transfer.

Wood is banging them in right now and has five goals from eight games this season for the Reds.

There has been talk of a new deal for Wood at Forest and it seems very logical for Forest to get their act together and open the talks.

The player is still in good shape, doesn’t look to be showing signs of being on the decline and perhaps more crucially is scoring goals.

Nuno Espirito Santo is clearly a fan of Wood and if Forest could get him tied down it would be good business for the club.
