Nottingham Forest beat Liverpool on Saturday to end a long run without a league win at Anfield.

The Reds ran out 1-0 winners, with Callum Hudson-Odoi scoring the game’s only goal with 18 minutes of normal time remaining.

It was a win that stunned the Premier League – and even some of the Forest fan base.

Although there is a sense that Forest will be much better this season, not even the most ardent of supporters will have fancied winning at Anfield.

Win was what Forest did though and this now gives the team a brilliant platform to build upon, with two wins and two draws on the board from four matches.

Liverpool did have some moments in the game, however, and Forest had to stand tall at key moments during the contest.

Dave Watson shares key Nottingham Forest moment that stunned him

The former Forest and England coach served Southampton with distinction as a goalkeeper coach and Watson thinks James Ward-Prowse will star at Forest.

However, it was Matz Sels who left him speechless on Saturday – and not in a good way!

Sels got so lucky in the first half when he dropped a routine catch and after it hit his arm, someone managed to avoid going over the line before the Belgian could gather.

The mistake gave Sels the rocket he needed to go and keep a clean sheet and Watson can’t believe he didn’t concede when he made that error.

He told the Cycling GK podcast: “How did that ball not end up in the goal? When I saw it, I had a massive gasp and I just can’t believe he’s got away with it.”

Sels must sharpen up if he’s to continue in the side

The 32-year-old hasn’t made many glaring mistakes since signing for Forest and this was nearly one for the bloopers reel.

Instead, he recovered from the incident and went on to make a clean sheet for the Reds.

However, Sels will know that Carlos Miguel is breathing down his neck and after a sound Carabao Cup performance, he will fancy a crack at the Premier League.

With that in mind, Sels will know that he’s got to work tirelessly to continue making saves and helping Forest towards big results when he’s in the team.

Sels has largely been a safe pair of hands and hopefully, this was just a momentary lapse in concentration – as opposed to the start of anything bigger.
