Nottingham Forest are trying to do some work in the transfer market as the club’s ambitions for the season to a drastic turn for the better.

In the summer, Forest fans would have easily taken a season of mid-table mediocrity and settled for being safe from relegation with six weeks of the season remaining.

Instead, a win over Southampton on Sunday made it seven wins in eight games and Forest fans are busy dusting down their passports and plotting a European dream next season.

With that in mind, the club might choose to hang fire in the transfer market. Evangelos Marinakis wants a new striker this month but it looks unlikely that much business will get done.

Mathys Tel has turned Forest down, whilst other strikers from South American markets are also being linked with a move to the City Ground before the window grinds to a halt.

Nottingham Forest linked Douglas Luiz now wants Premier League transfer

This might sound like good news but sadly it’s not for the Reds. Forest were linked with Douglas Luiz earlier this month with Juventus keen to offload the player that they only signed from Aston Villa this summer.

Luiz was signed for a fee of £37.7 million but the Old Lady appear keen to get shut of him already. That has naturally alerted a number of Premier League sides and it was thought that Forest were one of the interested parties.

Give Me Sport has some information, however, that claims Luiz is very keen to return to Manchester City this month and give it a proper go at the Etihad Stadium after failing to make a first-team appearance during his last spell at the club.

City are in search of a new number six after a cruel injury to Rodri earlier in the season. The Citizens have picked up of late but they do remain six points behind Forest on 38 points with 16 games of the campaign remaining.

Luiz was always a pipedream for Forest

When you’ve been playing Champions League football it’s fair to say that you have the right to be a bit selective about where you go. As a result, it’s no surprise to see that Luiz wants to join City this month from Juventus.

Still, Forest are leaving no stone unturned in their quest for new players. It’s clear that a certain level of player is going to be required if the club are going to dip their toe into the transfer market before the window closes.

The enquiry about Luiz suggests that the summer could be a very exciting time for Forest if European football is on the table. Marinakis will surely leave no stone unturned and perhaps links of this nature can become common practice in the future at the City Ground.
