Report: Nottingham Forest could now allow 'very special' player to leave on loan

Nottingham Forest have not hung about this summer in the transfer window with five new faces already through the door.

Nuno Espirito Santo has also seen a bright start to the summer on the pitch, too, with Forest having won two of their three friendlies.

But this does not mean Forest have not had to offload players as well over recent weeks.

Last month, the Reds had to balance the books against PSR and did so with the departures of Orel Mangala and Moussa Niakhate.

And Nuno could now be set to wave goodbye to another one of his players with real interest growing in his availability from a number of different leagues.

Nottingham Forest midfielder being eyed by MLS club

After a season of turbulence, Forest will be hoping to avoid any further relegation scares this season.

Evangelos Marinakis is seemingly doing what he can to provide Nuno with the tools needed to make this squad his own having only joined halfway through the 2023/24 season.

And it’s a case of so far so good for Forest this summer with some promising displays out there in their opening three pre-season games.

But there is still weeks remaining in the window with the potential for many more arrivals and departures with one player receiving considerable interest.

According to Alan Nixon, LAFC are now showing a real interest in potentially signing Lewis O’Brien this summer on loan.

Forest are looking to offload the midfielder for the 2024/25 campaign after he has just returned from his loan spell at Middlesbrough.

Interest is not just coming from the MLS, though, with Sheffield United also keen and Burnley have shown an interest but currently hold a bloated squad.

Lewis O’Brien has MLS experience

The 25-year-old does already hold experience of playing in the MLS with DC United last year where he was able to make 19 appearances for the club.

This could potentially work in LAFC’s favour with O’Brien having already spent time out in the States.

However, the midfielder has previously been hailed as ‘very talented‘ and he could well now view moving back to the MLS as a step down from English football.

O’Brien has only made 17 appearances for Forest since signing back in 2022 and none of those have come under Nuno with the midfielder clearly not in his plans either.
