Nottingham Forest might be doing bits on the pitch but the work doesn’t stop behind the scenes when it comes to transfers.
The Reds have built a quality squad for Nuno Espirito Santo to work with and during the summer window 11 new players were added to the City Ground ranks.
Nikola Milenkovic, Alex Moreno and James Ward-Prowse were eye-catching additions, with Elliot Anderson joining for £35 million from Newcastle.
One omission in the summer was a striker, with Santiago Gimenez rejecting Forest for a third time with just days until the deadline.
As the deadline approached, it also emerged that Forest were looking for another goalkeeper to support Matz Sels and new signing Carlos Miguel.
Now, Forest might be looking to ramp up those efforts when the January transfer window opens for business.
Nottingham Forest still want Caoimhin Kelleher
This is a link that simply won’t go away. Forest were first linked with a move for Kelleher before Sels joined the club from Strasbourg back in January.
Forest were linked again in the summer and offered Matt Turner plus a derisory sum of money to try and snare the Republic of Ireland number one from Liverpool.
Kelleher has been given a chance to play regular football this season at Anfield, with Alisson nursing an injury issue.
However, he’s not really held down the number one spot and at 25-years-old, the time has come for him to seek a new club where he can be considered the first choice.
Now according to The Sun reporter Konstantinos Lianos, Forest remain in the hunt for a goalkeeper and are still interested in making Kelleher a permanent addition.
It had been loosely reported that Chelsea were keen but with nine goalkeepers on their books, that’s not currently an area of interest to the Blues.
Signing him won’t come cheap for Forest. It’s been claimed that his form for Liverpool has now seen the Reds value him at £35 million and that would represent a significant outlay for a goalkeeper.
What Roy Keane said about Caoimhin Kelleher
Kelleher is the firmly established number one on the international stage and Roy Keane is a huge fan of his.
The talented performer couldn’t stop Ireland from losing 5-0 to England on Sunday and afterwards, Kelleher was praised by Keane for his efforts.
He told Balls: “Caoimhin is now getting regular games. I was working with Martin when we brought him in – we liked him straight away.
“From the first season we had, Seamus McDonagh was saying, ‘We like everything about him, he makes other keepers look lazy.’
“When you’re at the big club, playing the big games…he’s made one or two mistakes but he takes it in his stride.
“He’s getting a run of games now at Liverpool and I think he’s got a great chance.”
Forest will need a new goalkeeper in the next six months and signing Kelleher would definitely see the club land a player who could keep the gloves for the next 10 years in theory.
