Nottingham Forest have found themselves involved in reported talks over a potential swap deal with Newcastle United.

The June PSR deadline has been one of the big talking points this summer with a number of Premier League sides needing to create some revenue through player sales.

Forest were one of those clubs but the Reds have been able to balance the books with the sale of Moussa Niakhate to Lyon.

On the other hand, Newcastle are now in desperate need of generating some money before the end of the weekend as they remain in the red when it comes to PSR.

And this has seen reports emerge on Saturday suggesting the two clubs were in talks over a potential swap deal which would help Newcastle get back on track financially.

What Nottingham Forest actually think about offloading Anthony Elanga

The talks in question surround the future of Anthony Elanga at the City Ground with Newcastle said to be interested in the Sweden international.

It has been claimed the Toon would be willing to do a deal for Elanga which could involve either Elliot Anderson or Yankuba Minteh.

Talks are said to have been held over the last 24 hours as the PSR deadline looming.

Newcastle are said to have been left seriously impressed with the Forest winger following his display at St James’ Park on Boxing Day where he provided two assists.

But according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, Forest are neither want nor need to sell Elanga this weekend.

As a result, Forest will not feel the need to be rushed into any potential sales before the end of the month.

What will be interesting to see is whether Newcastle maintain their interest in Elanga if a deal is unable to be agreed before the PSR deadline.

Evangelos Marinakis deserves credit for relieving PSR woes

Forest and Everton are all too familiar with the repercussions of falling the wrong side of the financial regulations in place in the Premier League.

A points deduction last season saw Forest’s campaign piled with the pressure of the relegation battle.

However, that will not be the same this time around after Evangelos Marinakis eased the PSR concerns at the City Ground through the sales of Niakhate and Orel Mangala.

Two players who have not exactly been big parts of the plans under Nuno but have been offloaded for considerable sums to put the power back in Forest’s hands this summer.
