"A lot of money" – Director reveals he approached Southampton for January move, praises signing after form

Che Adams has been flying after his exit from Southampton in the summer.
The Scotland international is on fire for Torino, scoring four times in all competitions and assisting twice for the club.
It now seems as if Southampton could have sold Adams in January, with Torino sporting director Davide Vagnati revealing that Il Toro did make an attempt during the last winter transfer window.
He told Sky Italia, as relayed by GazzettaGranata:
"Let's say that, apart from going to Antigua to his mother, I tried everything. Jokes aside, I followed him in the Premier League. I tried to sign him last January, trying to anticipate the thing."
Vagnati also disclosed that Southampton’s demands made sure that the move didn’t happen in January.
“But they asked us for a lot of money and I worked to make the player understand that a step in Italy could do him good, to then return to the Premier League or to even more important clubs. He has great qualities."
Vagnati's comments suggest that if things keep going well, Adams could well return to the Premier League in the future, and the Granata will not be against that possibility.
Torino’s Duvan Zapata suffered a serious knee injury at the weekend and this could make sure that Adams plays more often. That could increase his output and escalate any chances of him departing Italy in the near future.
