Arsenal are looking to sign a striker in the final days of the January transfer window.

The Gunners have been courting a new centre-forward all month long.

Arsenal made a bid for Dusan Vlahovic earlier this month, while Jonathan David was touted as an Arsenal target too.

Igor Jesus has been linked to Arsenal recently, and speaking on Inside Gooners, Ben Jacobs has claimed that this deal could be one to keep an eye on.

Indeed, the journalist says that Arsenal have now made contact over signing Jesus, claiming that the striker may be available this month for as little as £20m.

Jesus had been linked to Fulham, but now, Arsenal appear to be in the mix now.

Arsenal make contact over Igor Jesus

Jacobs shared what he knows about Jesus and Arsenal.

The journalist says that the Brazilian striker is one to keep an eye one, while he also noted that some contact has been made on this front.

"I’d also throw in Igor Jesus as well at Botafogo, who’s more of an Edu legacy target, somebody that Arsenal looked at last year. And he is definitely available in January because the calendars align and it’s already the end of the Brazilian season. So Botafogo would rather sell him now rather than mid season in the summer.

"And that would be an outlay of 25 to 30 million euros (£20m – £25m). So keep an eye on that one because Arsenal have made some contact there. And he’s the kind of striker they could get in January and still have budget to move for some of the bigger names come summer."

Igor Jesus stats in Brazil

Arsenal are looking at signing Jesus, but perhaps this is a deal that Arsenal should steer clear of.

Indeed, while Jesus is a young player with plenty of potential upside, his numbers in Brazil aren't all that impressive.

Jesus has barely been scoring in Brazil's top flight.

Igor Jesus Brazil Serie A stats
Games32
Goals5
Assists3

The last thing Arsenal need right now is another striker who is goal shy, they have enough attackers in their squad who are struggling to score as it is.

Of course, these stats don't always translate.

Look at someone like Jhon Duran at Aston Villa, he'd only scored eight goals in almost 30 games MLS before his move to the Premier League, but Duran is now on seen as a £57m player who has been playing brilliantly in the Premier League and the Champions League this season.

Maybe Jesus is worth a gamble, but based on his statistics in Brazil, he doesn't look to be the answer to all of Arsenal's prayers.
