'Axel Disasi makes Wolves exit decision as Chelsea move nears'
01/27/2025 03:00 PM
Wolves transfer target Axel Disasi has made a decision on his future as an exit from Chelsea nears, Fabrizio Romano reports.
The French defender has been attracting interest from Wolves and Aston Villa, as well as a number of Italian clubs in the January transfer window.
Despite the interest from Molineux, Disasi is not considering them as an option, as he only wants to join Villa.
The move is set to be a loan move with a fee attached, and the Villains covering the former Monaco defender’s wages.
This news has not been greeted positively by Villa fans, who view the move for the Frenchman as a panic-buy, and a downgrade on Diego Carlos.
Wolves must move quickly after missing out on Disasi transfer
Football Insider Verdict
Wolves have been calamitous defensively this season, conceding 52 goals from 23 games, only one fewer than Southampton who sit bottom of the table.
In Vitor Pereira’s first two games in charge, his side kept two clean sheets in wins over Leicester (22 December), and Man United (26 December).
Since those results, the Midlands side have shipped 12 goals in five games and are winless since the game against United.
Pereira has identified centre-back as an area that needs improving, as Matt Doherty has been forced to play out-of-position for the Midlands side.
Whilst Toti Gomes has performed well for Wolves this season, Santiago Bueno has been more of a liability at the back.
Emmanuel Agbadou was signed from Stade Reims in France this January, but another centre-back signing is necessary if Pereira insists on playing three-at-the-back for the duration of this season.
Peter O’Rourke exclusively told Football Insider that the club was working on a deal for a new defender, but with just over a week to go till the transfer deadline, Wolves will have to move fast to improve their back line.
In other news, Matheus Cunha is set to force through a move to a Premier League rival.
