Brennan Johnson’s incredible streak of netting seven goals in seven games ended against West Ham as the forward could not find the back of the net.

Following a tricky start to the season, Johnson put together a remarkable run of scoring in six straight games for Tottenham, becoming the first player since Harry Kane in 2019 to do so for the North London club.

Johnson came close to extending that goal-scoring run against the Hammers on several occasions but fell just short of matching Kane’s club record.

Before scoring in seven straight matches for club and country, Johnson decided to delete his Instagram account after receiving a fair amount of abuse from supporters for his display in the North London derby.

Now, the 22-year-old has finally broken his silence on why he actually decided to delete his account on the social media site.

Brennan Johnson explains why he deleted Instagram

Johnson has revealed that there was no specific reason as to why he deleted his Instagram account, it was simply to remove a potential distraction.

Johnson told Football.London: “It was just a split decision in the moment where I thought ‘I’ll just delete it’, which I have kind of done before when I deleted the app, and this time I thought I’d just deactivate my account, but it wasn’t a massive deal for me.

The 22-year-old explained how nothing changed in his approach to training and he simply continued to work hard to ensure his form improved.

“I think, naturally, it can be a distraction and everyone’s probably guilty of scrolling for too long and things like that. It wasn’t anything too tactical and it definitely wasn’t to try to enhance and improve my game or add something different – it was just a personal decision I made instead,” he added.

“All the training and hard work never stopped throughout. I didn’t change my approach as I always come in and try to do the best I can here because l love this team.”

Ange Postecoglou’s bold Brennan Johnson claim vs West Ham

Ange Postecoglou believes that Johnson's performance against West Ham was his best display in a Spurs shirt despite his goal-scoring run coming to an end.

The Australian coach claims his work rate throughout the game was crucial in helping him claim his first major London derby win in charge of the club.

Speaking to the media after the win, Postecoglou said: “I mentioned it to the lads, I know Brennan Johnson didn't score today but I thought that was his best performance for us with the amount of work he did to help out Pedro and help out the team in a defensive capacity and still be a threat going the other way.”
