Chelsea respond after being offered chance to re-sign £24m star

Chelsea have been offered the chance to re-sign former defender Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan, according to reports.
Tomori joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of eight and progressed through the various youth teams over the next decade.
The centre-back made his first-team debut for Chelsea in 2016 and then, after a number of loan spells, made 22 appearances for the Blues throughout the 2019-20 campaign.
With his first-team minutes suddenly drying up, Tomori joined AC Milan on loan in January 2021 and immediately impressed in Italy, lifting the Serie A trophy in his first season at the club.
Tomori joined AC Milan on a permanent transfer worth £24m the following summer, signing a four-year deal.
Since then Tomori has played more than 150 games for Milan, but he has currently found himself out of favour with just six league starts this season.
Sky Sport Germany say Tomori is growing frustrated by his lack of minutes and is questioning his future at the club for the first time.
It is claimed Tomori’s representatives have approached a number of Premier League clubs above a move and those include his former side Chelsea.
But Chelsea will only consider re-signing the 27-year-old if any current defenders leave Stamford Bridge, with France international Axel Disasi being linked with a move away from west London.
While Chelsea are not currently pursuing Tomori, Juventus are reportedly interested in securing his signature.
Tomori has earned five caps for England but was not included in the Three Lions’ squad for last summer’s Euros in Germany.
He left Stamford Bridge during Frank Lampard’s reign as Chelsea boss but the England legend revealed last year he did not want to sell the defender.
'Fikayo Tomori, I wanted to keep, but at the same time I had five centre-backs,’ Lampard said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football show.
‘He was in and out of the team and he got frustrated and he wanted to leave, that happens with young players.’
AC Milan have endured a disappointing first-half to the season and sit eighth in Serie A going into 2025.
Tomori’s former club Chelsea, meanwhile, have slipped to fourth in the Premier League after losing back-to-back games over the festive period.
