Everton fans have been given an update over whether their club is looking to sign Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil in the transfer window, via Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers.

The Toffees are seemingly looking to bring in several players this month, as they look to strengthen the squad available to returning manager David Moyes.

So far this month they are yet to make a first-team signing, although it was suggested earlier this week they are keen to bring Neil to the club from Sunderland (Daily Telegraph).

Now though it seems Everton are not pursuing that deal, and may have some way to go before they do complete any signings.

When asked on X if the club are close to securing any additions, Myers responded by saying: “I’m not aware of anything tbh”.

There is though still some optimism that deals will be done. After being asked if the club are likely to sign anyone, he added: “Every chance but don’t ask me who at this point”.

After then being given a question about whether the links with Neil are correct, the Sky Sports reporter revealed: “I’m told that’s not the case”.

Everton need to start making signings for David Moyes soon

Football Insider Verdict

The pressure will no doubt be growing on the Toffees to start getting their business done sooner rather than later, with less than two weeks to go until the window closes.

Everton are still only four points clear of the relegation zone in the Premier League table meaning they are from guaranteed of safety at this moment in time.

Signings that improve the squad will help boost their chances of avoiding the drop, and the sooner they are sorted, the more confidence and morale around the club will start to grow.

The Friedkin Group showed some promising signs with their early business after completing their takeover of the club last month and will want to back that up with a productive transfer market as well.

Considering their lack of goals this season, further attacking options are surely a priority for Everton before the window closes.

As a result it may not be the biggest concern for the club if they do not sign Neil – as exciting a midfielder as he is – if they can get other options in at Goodison Park.

In other news, Everton have been tipped to secure the “cut-price” signing of a Southampton player.
