Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has taken to social media to let the fans know exactly how much their 2-1 North London Derby win over Tottenham on Wednesday (January 15) meant.
The 26-year-old was replaced by Mikel Merino in the 87th minute as Mikel Arteta’s side secured a come-back win against their arch-rivals.
Heung-Min Son opened the scoring for the visitors after 25 minutes after his volley took a heavy deflection, leaving David Raya with no chance.
Arsenal scored a controversial equaliser from a corner in the 40th minute after the ball seemingly bounced off Pedro Porro and then onto Leadro Trossard, meaning it should have been a goalkick.
Gabriel towered above the Tottenham defender to meet Rice’s inswinging corner but the final touch came off of Spurs forward Dominic Solanke and it was given as an own goal.
Leandro Trossard scored the winner just before half-time, giving Mikel Arteta’s side a much-needed win in the race for the Premier League title.
Declan Rice key as Arsenal close the gap on Liverpool with Tottenham win
The defensive midfielder has been integral for Arsenal this season, starting 24 of his 27 games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing five assists in his 2078 minutes of action.
Rice took to Instagram to celebrate the win over Tottenham, letting the fans know exactly how he feels, saying: “this means more.”
Arsenal are just four points behind league leaders Liverpool following their 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, although Arne Slot’s side have a game in hand.
Arteta’s side face Aston Villa in their next Premier League game on Saturday (January 18) as they seek to further close the gap.
