Ipswich attacking midfielder Sammie Szmodics has sent a farewell message on social media after a January transfer move was confirmed.

Harry Clarke, a part of the promotion winning side last season, has joined Sheffield United on-loan until the end of the season.

The former Arsenal academy player featured 35 times in the Championship for the Tractor Boys last year, but only made seven Premier League appearances this campaign.

His last appearance for the club came on 12 January, as he made a cameo from the bench in a 3-0 win against Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup.

Clarke is the Blades’ fourth January signings, Sheffield signed Ben Brereton Diaz from Southampton, as well as Hamza Choudhury and Tom Cannon from Leicester.

Former Blackburn star Szmodics has not featured for Ipswich since suffering an injury in a 2-2 draw with Fulham (5 January).

Szmodics was signed after scoring an astonishing 27 goals for Blackburn in the Championship, and Ipswich have lost all three Premier League games in his absence.

The Irish international had impressed for the Tractor Boys since his summer move, scoring four times in 18 matches.

Szmodics sent a message on his Instagram story to Clarke after the news of his transfer, saying: “Good luck my boy Harry Clarke.”

Clarke may not be the only Ipswich player leaving in January, as star striker Liam Delap has been linked with a move to Chelsea.

Ipswich will face off against Southampton on 1 February as the two sides meet in a huge relegation six-pointer.

In other news, a former Chelsea and Man United star may make a surprise move to Ipswich in the January transfer window.
