Liverpool have started this Premier League season brilliantly.

The Reds sit at the top of the league after six games, winning five and losing one.

Arne Slot's side look to be good value for a title tilt this season, and the scary thing is, Liverpool have done this off the back of a very quiet summer.

Indeed, the Merseyside club haven't made many major signings in the last transfer window, despite their efforts.

Liverpool tried to sign Martin Zubimendi in the summer, but that deal collapsed, while Anthony Gordon was also a target.

Gordon put in a brilliant performance against Manchester City at the weekend, and speaking on Premier League Productions, Dion Dublin has stated just how well Newcastle have done to keep hold of Gordon.

Newcastle did well to keep Anthony Gordon

Dublin spoke highly of the Newcastle attacker.

"His finishing is good, he's intelligent," Dublin said.

"It's brilliant that he's going to stay because it did look at one stage in the summer that he would leave and quite possibly go to Liverpool," The host said.

"They've done well to keep him, they have done very well to keep him," Dublin replied.

Anthony Gordon is set to sign a new contract

Newcastle haven't just managed to block Liverpool's advances this summer, they appear to have tied Gordon down for the long-term as well.

Indeed, the winger is set to sign a new contract.

Gordon is expected to sign his new deal before the next international break, and that will be a huge boost to Newcastle after a period of uncertainty around the attacker's future.

Gordon seems to be improving on a weekly basis, and his last performance against Manchester City was a standout showing .

Big clubs will continue to monitor Gordon, but it looks as though Newcastle may be able to keep hold of him for his peak years.
