Leeds defender Ethan Ampadu has sent a message to fans on social media saying they need to “keep pushing for more” after a draw with Burnley.

The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes in Monday’s (27 January) 0-0 draw with Leeds.

Ampadu was given a 7/10 rating by Football Insider for a performance described as “Solid defensively, winning four aerial duels and making two clearances. However, he couldn't influence the game much beyond his defensive duties.”

The match was a nervy affair, with neither side wanting to cede ground to the other in the race for promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds entered the match as the Championship’s top scorers, with Burnley holding the best defensive record, leading to a dreary stalemate between the two sides.

It took until the 88th minute for a shot on target to be registered, when Dan James had an effort tipped over the bar by James Trafford.

Leeds looking to make the most of their recent results in the chase for promotion

Despite the draw against Burnley, Leeds still find themselves in pole position to win the Championship, having not lost since 30 November.

The Whites’ offensive options, including Will Gnonto, Ao Tanaka and Joel Piroe have all established themselves as Premier League quality options.

However, Ampadu may just be the best of the bunch, the former Chelsea defender has matured into a composed leader on the pitch and is looking like the player fans had hoped he would become.

Ampadu posted on his Instagram story after the game, saying: “Take the point and keep pushing for more.

Manager Daniel Farke will be hoping for more January reinforcements, as he looks to bring Leeds back to the Premier League just two seasons after their relegation, Louie Barry has been linked to the Yorkshire side.

The Whites will face Cardiff next on 1 February as they look to maintain their magnificent unbeaten run.

In other news, there has been an update on Emiliano Buendia’s move to Leeds from Aston Villa.
