TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Manchester United have set their sights on signing a player who previously worked under Ruben Amorim during his time at Sporting CP.
It is taking Ruben Amorim time to blood in his style of play at Old Trafford, with Newcastle United handing the Red Devils their fourth successive defeat in the Premier League now.
Manchester United’s chances of relegation seem statistically possible as they have the same points total (22) as the last time they suffered the drop in the 1973/1974 season.

Manchester United transfer news: Nuno Mendes eyed at Old Trafford
Another player that Manchester United are interested in signing is Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes, according to TBR Football’s chief correspondentGraeme Bailey.
TBR Football understands that Mendes, who played under Ruben Amorim 47 times at Sporting has rejected an offer from PSG to extend his contract beyond 2026, putting several clubs on alert, including United.
The French giants’ sporting director Luis Campos had made it one of his biggest priorities to tie the Portuguese international to a new deal heading into 2025.
However, Mendes’ decision to snub PSG’s offer has stunned PSG, with the 22-year-old’s representatives informing the club that he is exploring his options.
The youngster’s camp have assured the Parisians that they have not held any talks with rival clubs.
United are looking to sign a left wing-back that fit their current system, with Diogo Dalot struggling under Ruben Amorim.
TBR Football have been informed that the English side admire the likes of Patrick Dorgu and Maxi Araujo, who they have done their due diligence on in recent weeks.
But Manchester United have been fully aware of Mendes’ qualities for a long time and consider him as a safe bet to perform under Ruben Amorim due to having played as a wing-back in his setup at Sporting.
Which other clubs are rivalling Manchester United to sign Nuno Mendes?
TBR Football understands that United’s interest in Mendes is relatively fresh, considering his decision to rebuff PSG’s contract offer surprised them amongst other clubs.
The news surrounding the highly-rated defender’s latest decision about his future has meant his representatives have been flooded with enquiries, to the extent that they are keeping the player in the loop as well.
Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are all interested in signing the three-time Ligue 1 winner as well, as they are all keen on bolstering the left-back department in their respective squads.
Bayern are especially keeping tabs on Mendes’ future as Alphonso Davies is open to an exit and looks set to part ways with Vincent Kompany’s side in the summer.
PSG are remaining hopeful that they can convince one of their most key players to sign a contract renewal as they hope to initiate fresh talks in the near future.
