Reading have rejected an offer from League One rivals Stevenage for versatile star Michael Craig, sources have told Football Insider.

Craig is out of contract this summer and Stevenage made an offer to sign the former Tottenham youngster in a permanent deal.

The Royals have turned down Boro’s bid for the 21-year-old ahead of the transfer deadline next week (3 February).

He joined Reading on a free transfer in 2022 after leaving Tottenham at the end of his contract and is now a key part of their side.

Craig has made 29 appearances across all competitions for the Berkshire outfit this season and has transitioned into a right-back role.

The ex-Spurs star has started in 24 of those outings, scoring one goal.

He extended his contract by 12 months last year (2024) but is set to walk away from Reading for free at the end of this season.

Craig, who has one Scotland Under-21 cap to his name, has made 70 appearances across all competitions for Reading – who lost manager Ruben Selles to Hull City last month.

Selles was replaced by Noel Hunt with the Royals now eighth in League One and just one point adrift of a play-off place.

Meanwhile, Stevenage sit 15th in the third tier and are 13 points clear of the relegation zone.
