Walsall boss Mat Sadler is under consideration for the manager vacancies at Millwall and Northampton Town, sources have told Football Insider.

Sadler is regarded as one of the best young managers in the EFL after impressing at Walsall over the last 18 months.

The 39-year-old has guided Walsall to the top of League Two this season with an attacking style of football – despite working on a shoe-string budget.

Millwall are searching for a new manager with Neil Harris set to step down after this weekend’s clash against Middlesbrough.

Meanwhile, Northampton are also seeking a replacement for Jon Brady after he surprisingly stepped down from his role at the League One club last week.

Both clubs are looking at several manager targets as they prepare to make a decision on their next appointment.

Walsall boss Sadler on the shortlist at Milwall and Northampton

Sadler features on the list both at The Den and Sixfields with his good work at Walsall recognised.

He has won 18 of the 27 matches in charge this term, including 11 from 18 in the fourth tier.

The Saddlers are two points clear of second-place Port Vale with a game in hand heading into Saturday’s (14 December) fixture against Barrow.

Young boss Sadler was a coach at the Bescot Stadium before being thrust into a caretaker role in May 2023 and eventually getting the job full-time.

The 39-year-old, who primarily plays a back three with wing-backs, has taken charge of 81 games in senior management – winning 38 and drawing 16.

In other news, Tottenham could recall League One star.
