Earlier today we covered the confusion growing in Turkey related to Diego Carlos’ move from Aston Villa to Fenerbahce.

The transfer was thought to be all agreed, and the Brazilian defender would be one of the additions Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has demanded in this transfer window.

Carlos was initially expected to arrive in Istanbul in the early hours of Tuesday. That was then delayed until Tuesday at 6pm local time, and then further delayed until 10pm.

Inevitably, there’s assumptions of something being wrong.

Fotospor report it’s Monchi who has paused the Aston Villa exit, because he doesn’t want it to go through until he’s sure of securing Loïc Badé from Sevilla.

Aston Villa saw their first offer for the Frenchman rejected. That consisted of €21m plus a potential further €4m in bonus payments. Sevilla are said to want an ambitious €30m.

Whether this is all part of a negotiating battle between Monchi and his Sevilla successor Victor Orta is unknown, but it wouldn’t be a great surprise if pride is playing a bigger part than usual.
