It has been an almost faultless start to the 2024/25 campaign for Liverpool under their new manager.

Arne Slot has the Reds sitting top of the Premier League and second in the new format of the Champions League.

Liverpool put another three points on the board in their trip to RB Leipzig on Wednesday night thanks to Darwin Nunez’s only goal of the game.

But a big test is to come on the weekend as Slot’s side make the trip down to north London where they will face Arsenal.

After the results over the weekend, Liverpool have now been able to open up a four-point gap on the Gunners.

And former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has admitted there are two players at Liverpool who are surprising everyone with just how well they are playing this season.

Ian Wright wowed by ‘supernova’ Liverpool stars under Arne Slot

A lot of questions were being asked about Liverpool’s midfield ahead of the new season with the Reds looking to invest in the window.

However, Liverpool were rejected by Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi who was their number one target for the market.

But it seems as if the Reds did not quite need to invest over the summer with some of the players which Slot inherited performing to such an impressive level.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Wright hailed the performances of Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones this season.

“I don’t think you can underestimate, honestly, no one expected this from Gravenberch and then Curtis Jones all of a sudden he’s gone supernova,” said Wright.

“What I’m saying is I think the form of Gravenberch and Curtis Jones is taking it to another place.”

Curtis Jones could become undroppable at Liverpool

Jones has only started two Premier League games this season under Slot and they have been Liverpool’s most recent two games.

The 23-year-old scored the winning goal on the weekend in the game against Chelsea at Anfield but then started from the bench on Wedneaday.

Perhaps Slot is now viewing Jones as a major part of his plans for the weekend’s game against Arsenal which is a huge clash at the top end of the table.

Gary Neville was left blown away by Jones’ display for Liverpool against Chelsea which surely leaves him undroppable from the Premier League starting XI.

But it is the quality being shown from the likes of Jones and Gravenberch which is proving Slot’s decision not to rush in for another midfielder over the summer was the correct one.
