Tottenham Hotspur are back in Europa League action tonight when AZ Alkmaar make the trip to north London.

The European competition has allowed Ange Postecoglou to make changes to his starting XI which has still seen Tottenham win both of their two games.

After a hugely underwhelming result against Brighton & Hove Albion just before the international break, Spurs were able to get back on track with a win on the weekend.

And there were some impressive performances out there at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against West Ham.

Despite failing to get his name on the scoresheet, Dominic Solanke was able to impress the likes of Micky van de Ven after making his big money move in the summer.

Micky van de Ven wowed by what Dominic Solanke is doing

What was perhaps one of the most impressive takeaways from Saturday’s victory was Spurs scoring four goals without Solanke finding the back of the net.

After signing in the summer, Solanke has been hailed by Spurs legend Graham Roberts having returned three goals and two assists in his nine appearances.

Solanke arrived on the back of a big price fee being spent on him but what he is doing outside of finding the back of the net is really impressing his teammates.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday ahead of the game in north London, Van de Ven admitted Solanke’s work rate has really impressed him.

“Dom has been unbelievable since he joined, he is working so hard,” said the Tottenham defender.

“Even as a striker you see offensive, defensive – he keeps running the whole game and I am watching him and thinking ‘phwoar, how are you even doing this, keeping sprinting over and over again’.

“Also he is getting his goals and his assists and hopefully he can keep going like this.”

Tottenham should rest Dominic Solanke vs AZ Alkmaar

Clearly, those inside the club are delighted to see what Solanke is returning in north London but it has to be remembered he has already suffered an injury this season.

Although Spurs have spent big money on the England international, Postecoglou does need to rotate his squad with Richarlison having now returned from his injury issue.

And the cup competitions are the perfect opportunity for the Lilywhites to change up their starting XI and provide other players with some minutes.

Given Solanke has experienced an injury issue already this season, having Richarlison back up to speed sooner rather than later could be crucial to Tottenham’s success.
