Arsenal were left frustrated for a variety of reasons during their 5-3 loss on penalties against Manchester United in the Third Round of the FA Cup.

Arsenal’s penalty against Manchester United was fortunate but once the decision was made, Mikel Arteta would have hoped Ruben Amorim’s side were punished by Martin Odegaard from 12 yards out.

However, Odegaard’s penalty was saved by Altay Bayindir, who had his best day in a Manchester United shirt.

Alan Shearer lauded Bayindir’s display against Arsenal as well as he saved United’s blushes time and again as they were under the cosh after Diogo Dalot was sent off in the 61st minute.

Yet, Arsenal could not take advantage on Sunday.

Time and again, the Gunners missed chances, allowing Ruben Amorim to breathe easily as his Manchester United side were given plenty of opportunities to stay in the contest.

Why Alan Shearer “frustrated” for Arsenal fans vs Man United

When Arsenal were in the final third, while they could have scored a number of goals, they were also quite frustrated by United’s resolute defence.

The likes of Odegaard, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Martinelli, whose early goal was disallowed against Manchester United tried to create chances for Kai Havertz, who could have been sent off and the other Arsenal forwards on several instances but often, to no avail.

Alan Shearer admitted he felt frustrated, much like the Arsenal supporters why the hosts’ players were not getting on the end of several of the dangerous opportunities they carved out against United.

Shearer said via BBC Sport: “Even I am getting frustrated on behalf of the Arsenal fans.”

“Some great balls which need someone attacking it to get on the end of it.”

Jorginho often carved out Manchester United’s defence with a number of delightfully-played through balls.

Either, the Arsenal players fluffed their lines or were positioned in areas where they could not capitalise.

Meanwhile, Manchester United were quite lethal at the Emirates Stadium, scoring a goal from the mere seven shots they took and the four shots on target.

Micah Richards says Arsenal were not “clinical” enough vs Man United

However, Micah Richards felt Arsenal were simply not clinical enough to put the game to bed.

Richards said via BBC Sport: “Arsenal had the opportunities. They have go to be more clinical.”

“They do all the fancy bit and get into the final third but then they’ve got to punish teams.”

Havertz in particular missed chance after chance against Manchester United.

Arsenal created an xG (Expected Goals) of 3.87 against United.

Manchester United, on the other hand mustered up just 1.1 xG after extra time.

Yet, both teams scored a goal each and United won.

Mikel Arteta should be concerned that Arsenal’s finishing as such wasteful displays in front of goal could cost them down the line as well.
