Trent Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool future is up in the air at the moment.

Alexander-Arnold has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, and with his contract up in the summer, a free transfer could be in the offing.

Alexander-Arnold is an incredible talent, and it's no surprise that big clubs are sniffing around this situation.

Contract talks with Alexander-Arnold are ongoing, but according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, there is a problem on the horizon for Liverpool.

Indeed, the journalist says that Liverpool have a problem in that Real Madrid are set to play against the Reds next month, and that will allow Los Blancos to make an offensive play to try to sign Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool's problem with Trent Alexander-Arnold

Jones shared what he's heard about Alexander-Arnold from one of his sources.

The journalist says that Real Madrid are interested, and the Spanish giants are going to turn on the charm next month when they play Liverpool in the Champions League.

"It was interesting because a couple of weeks ago, I spoke to somebody who said, yeah, there’s nothing active on this. Like they just want him on a free transfer basically," Jones said.

"They want him on a free transfer at the end of the season. And they’re waiting to see if he signs that new deal at Liverpool, if he doesn’t, they’ll sign him. Then something really weird happened over the international break.

"Marca started coming out with headlines. And a lot of the time, what happens with Marca is that it’s basically accepted that they are just drip fed stories from the club itself. And it’s almost like a PR machine that works for the club and gets messages out there and puts pressure on situations.

"And suddenly headlines come out saying, Trent won’t sign a new contract at Liverpool and Liverpool know it, basically, is what the gist of the story was. Liverpool aren’t very impressed by this. They knew that Madrid were keeping on the situation, but as they understood it and thought the case would be, was that Madrid would be passive until that situation became something they could actually take advantage of.

"So that’s a little bit aggressive from Madrid really. Liverpool don’t like it, but they’re putting a deaf ear to it for now and just ignoring any noise that is coming their way from Spain.

"The problem is that, as I was told when I spoke to someone at the end of last week, they said, the thing is, Liverpool and Real Madrid play each other at the end of November, and that’s when the playbook will come out.

"They’ll build up around that game. That’s when the machine will start to turn on again and there’ll be more headlines around Trent if he hasn’t signed his Liverpool contract. Liverpool still have some hope, some belief that he will."

Liverpool have other problems

Trent Alexander-Arnold's future is a problem for Liverpool, but this is far from the only issue the Reds have right now.

Indeed, there are two other massive contract situations bubbling at Liverpool.

Virgil van Dijk's contract is up at the end of the season, as is Mohamed Salah's

Van Dijk has also been tipped to join Real Madrid at the end of the season, as his contract talks rumble on, while Saudi Arabian clubs may still be keen on Salah.

Salah is said to be happy at Liverpool, so perhaps his contract will ultimately be sorted, but the fact that the Reds are having to juggle three very precarious situations at the same time is far from ideal.

Liverpool will want to keep all three of these players, but whether or not that is possible remains to be seen.

Real Madrid are going to make some sort of move for Alexander-Arnold next month, and it will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds from here.
