At the weekend, Manchester United’s Victor Lindelöf picked up an injury in Sweden’s win over Slovakia in the UEFA Nations League.
The defender, who captained the national team, was replaced by Celta Vigo’s Carl Starfelt in the 26th minute.
On Sunday, the Swedish football association confirmed the Manchester United player has withdrawn from the squad, after suffering an injury.
The 30-year-old missed the start of this season with an injury and returned to the pitch last month. He made seven appearances in all competitions, and it includes two starts in the Europa League.
Monday’s edition of Göteborgs-Posten points out the centre-back needed assistance to get away from the pitch against Slovakia.
The former Benfica man has struggled with injuries since at the end of last year and it has impacted his game time at Manchester United. To put it in context, he’s spent over 150 days on the sidelines since last December.
Bologna’s Emil Holm has expressed his disappointed after his compatriot suffered another setback. He explained the latest injury blow has clearly impacted Lindelöf, and that showed in the Sweden dressing room.
“It’s very sad. He just come back from injury and then to get another injury, you suffer with that. It was tough to see,” he said, as quoted by Göteborgs-Posten.
“He was very down in the dressing room too. He’s an important man in the team, he’s captain anyway. No, it was a shame.”
When asked if he said anything to the Red Devils defender, Holm explained: “I gave him a hug and told him to get well.”
Lindelöf’s contract lasts until 2025 and his future beyond this season could be away from Manchester United.
