Liverpool beat Bologna in the Champions League this week, and, once again, the man of the hour was Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian scored the Reds' second goal against Bologna in midweek to seal the win and continue his strong run of form as of late.

Salah will, of course, want to extend his hot streak against Crystal Palace this weekend, and writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson has been singing the winger's praises.

Merson says that Salah is in incredible form, but he is slightly worried about the idea of the Reds losing the attacker.

Salah is in the final year of his Liverpool contract, and Merson believes the £34m man is utterly irreplaceable and it would be a nightmare if the Reds lost him at this point.

Mohamed Salah is irreplaceable

Merson shared his verdict on Salah and how important he is to this Liverpool side.

"Liverpool have an abundance of good forwards at the club and so they are not short of choices. Mohamed Salah continued his heroics in midweek against Bologna in the Champions League," Merson wrote.

"I just think it’ll be a nightmare if Liverpool lose him when he’s in this type of form, it’s impossible to replace someone like him. All things considered, I’m backing Liverpool to win here."

Mohamed Salah replacement would cost a fortune

Merson says that Mohamed Salah is irreplaceable, and he's not too far wrong.

Of course, there are players in world football who can do what Salah can – Bukayo Saka is putting up similar numbers at Arsenal in a similar role, while Cole Palmer also delivered similar output from the right wing last season.

However, to sign a player of that level these days would cost an absolute fortune, and it's hard to see Liverpool being able to spend enough to sign an adequate replacement for Salah.

Of course, Federico Chiesa is already at the club, and he is a top player on his day, but fitness issues have plagued the Italian in recent years and he's unproven in the Premier League.

Salah's future is a big issue that Liverpool definitely need to address in the coming months.
