Liverpool continued their fantastic start to life under Arne Slot with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Chelsea at Anfield to keep their place at the top of the Premier League standings.

Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock with a first-half penalty, but the Blues struck back shortly after the internal through Nicolas Jackson as they continued to grow into the game.

However, Curtis Jones scored what turned out to be the winner with a clever touch and finish from inside the penalty area after controlling a fantastic pass from Salah.

And Gabriel Agbonlahor believes the Egyptian was simply unstoppable as the Reds worked their socks off to put Enzo Maresca’s side to bed.

Salah was at the top of the game right from the get-go and terrorised the Chelsea backline with his pace and guile on the ball.

He scored the first and set up the other to continue his rich vein of form against the Premier League top-six.

Agbonlahor included Salah in his Team of the Weekend, hailing his unique ability to score and create goals in equal measure.

"Mo Salah, where do you start?,” said Agbonlahor on talkSPORT.

“The way he was bullying the Chelsea defense, I want to know what Mo Salah eats. I want to know his workouts because he is so strong. He took his penalty very well – no-nonsense, no casual run-up, run up to it and put your foot through it. Goal.

“Also, his ball for Curtis Jones's goal was outstanding. Not many players see that and he was making these sorts of balls and passes all game. His vision is out of this world.”

Agbonlahor also urged Liverpool to tie the Egyptian down to a new contract regardless of what his wage demands are, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

He continued: “Mo Salah for me after Curtis Jones was outstanding in the game and Liverpool need to get him signed up.

“If it's £450,000 a week, I don't care what it is. They can't afford to lose Mo Salah on a free transfer. Outstanding talent and still playing at a high level."

Liverpool can’t afford to lose Salah

Since joining the club in the summer of 2017 for £34m, Salah has broken records aplenty at Anfield and has established himself as one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s decorated history.

However, he has yet to sign a new deal and could leave for free at the end of the season if he doesn’t put pen to paper on an extension in the coming months.

Salah was the subject of interest from the Saudi Pro League, but none of the clubs pressed ahead with their interest this year, although Al Ittihad launched a move for him in the summer of 2023.

Fabrizio Romano says Salah is happy at Liverpool, with discussions over a new contract set to take place imminently.

He is still the main man at Anfield and the Reds need to do whatever it takes to tie him down to a new deal.
