Rangers initially took Óscar Cortés on a loan deal from RC Lens in January, and in August they extended his loan stay for one more season. As part of the new deal, Philippe Clement's side have a mandatory obligation to make his stay permanent next summer.
The Colombia international has struggled with injuries since joining Rangers. A muscle injury forced him to spend most of the second half of last season away from the pitch.
Cortés has continued to have fitness concerns this season and has clocked in 111 minutes from three games for Rangers. Clement has stated the 20-year-old doesn’t have luck on his side and insisted he isn’t an injury prone player.
Colombia’s Caracol Radio relay the manager’s comments and the doubts raised in Europe about his fitness level. They then provide their own take on this case. It’s stated the winger’s future at Rangers is ‘still up in the air’.
The Scottish club have an obligation to make his stay permanent and this shows their ‘confidence in his talent’. The South American needs to overcome fitness problems and prove his worth on the pitch.
