Liverpool haven't had the best of luck in recent times when going head-to-head with their Premier League rivals in the transfer market.

Leny Yoro was a Liverpool target over the summer, but the French defender ended up at Manchester United instead.

Meanwhile, Liverpool tried to sign Martin Zubimendi in the summer, but Zubimendi now looks set for Arsenal.

Liverpool also bid for Moises Caicedo 18 months ago, but the Ecuadorian ended up at Chelsea.

Arne Slot's side may be top of the Premier League at the moment, but whenever they've got involved in transfer races recently, they have come out second-best.

However, that could be about to change as it's said that Liverpool are the preferred destination for one of the most in-demand players in the Premier League right now.

Milos Kerkez wants Liverpool move

According to The I, Milos Kerkez's preferred destination if he's to leave Bournemouth is to join Liverpool.

It's said in this report that Kerkez would rather join Liverpool than Manchester City or Manchester United.

Manchester United have been linked with Kerkez for a long time, but now it's Liverpool who seemingly lead this race.

Jamie Carragher wants Liverpool to sign a new left-back, and he may get his wish here.

Antonee Robinson has also been linked with Liverpool in recent times, while Kerkez has been valued at £40m.

Manchester City and Manchester United's other targets

City and United could miss out on Kerkez to Liverpool, but he's not the only left-back on the market.

Nuno Mendes has been linked to Manchester United, while Manchester City are close to two new defensive additions.

Indeed, Vitor Reis is set to sign for City soon, while Abdukodir Khusanov is a City target too.

Neither of those players are natural full-backs, but, as Pep Guardiola has shown with Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and John Stones in recent years, City aren't afraid to repurpose their centre-halves into new roles.

Whether or not Kerkez do make a move for Kerkez remains to be seen, but Richard Hughes knows the player well from his time at Bournemouth, so that could be something the Merseyside club look to explore.

Don't be surprised if Liverpool do end up bringing the Hungarian to Anfield as Andy Robertson continues to struggle.
