Newcastle United have enjoyed a good start to the season, the Toon sat in a European spot in the Premier League whilst also on the march to another League Cup final.

Even with the summer transfer window an underwhelming one with Newcastle making deals to ensure they’re not punished for breaking the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, the Magpies are in a good position on and off the pitch to enjoy a productive season.

With a £1bn stadium plan in the works, things are starting to look up again for Newcastle after the disappointment that was last year given what happened in the UEFA Champions League and how the league campaign ended.

Yet one Newcastle player has had to endure the last year knowing that the club want to sell him.

Miguel Almiron knows Newcastle have been pushing to sell him

According to the Athletic, Miguel Almiron has been aware of Newcastle’s intention to sell him for over a year, with the Paraguay international not part of Eddie Howe’s long-term plans with the northeast Premier League giants.

Almiron was linked with a move away from Newcastle this summer with the winger’s form taking a hit last season after a sensational 2022/23 campaign, where the attacker played a key role in helping the Magpies qualify for the Champions League.

Described by Bruno Guimaraes as ‘amazing’, Almiron is a firm fan favourite at St. James’ Park after being brought in by Rafa Benitez in 2019, with the Paraguay international now viewed as part of the Newcastle furniture.

Yet Almiron being made aware for a year that he is up for sale has seemingly played a role in the 30-year-old attacker’s form, with the winger failing to hit the heights from two years ago when the Newcastle man looked unstoppable.

Almiron should look to leave the Premier League in January

With Almiron linked with a move to the Middle East and MLS in the summer, there’s a real chance that these rumours could reignite in January where clubs from around the world will be looking to make some big moves to start off 2025.

And with Newcastle looking to sell Almiron and the former Atlanta United star aware that the Magpies are keen to offload him, a move in January would make a lot of sense for the Paraguay international, who still has a lot to offer at this stage in his career.

Six years in the Premier League has made Almiron a fan favourite at Newcastle with the 2022/23 season one that no Magpie fan will forget anytime soon, and the attacker knows closing this chapter in his career could be for the best.
