Arsenal have been forced into action in the January transfer window.

The Gunners are never fans of doing business in the winter. They prefer to sign and sell players in the summer, but things are different now.

That’s because Arsenal have lost Bukayo Saka to a significant injury. Mikel Arteta is desperate to find cover on the right flank, and luckily for him, the transfer window is now open.

Here’s the latest on one of their long-term targets.

Arsenal can afford Nico Williams in January but there’s a problem

Nico Williams has been a target for Arsenal for a long, long time.

The Spaniard made a phenomenal name for himself in the 2023/24 season. He wasn’t just outstanding for Athletic Bilbao but was also a superstar for La Roja in their Euro 2024 triumph.

A number of clubs including Arsenal wanted to sign Williams last summer, but the 22-year-old decided to stay at Bilbao.

Now, The Daily Mail have listed the players the Gunners are interested in, and Williams has been named once again.

The report claims that the North Londoners have money to spend in the winter window and the Spain international’s near-£50 million release clause is ‘well within Arsenal's budget’.

But, there is a problem.

It has been revealed that ‘there is some doubt’ over whether Williams would be willing to leave Bilbao in the January transfer window.

Williams would solve two big problems at Arsenal

Arsenal have a mountain to climb in the second half of the season – they are already nine points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The Gunners need all the help they can get, and Williams would be a great option for them.

The Spaniard, who has been hailed as ‘one of the best wingers in international football’ by Transfermarkt’s Ivan Turmo, is capable of producing the goods on either wing.

With Saka out injured and Arsenal having problems on the left side of their pitch, the Spaniard would be the perfect option to bring in as he would offer solutions on both flanks.

However, Arteta will have to work his magic to convince Williams to leave his beloved Bilbao and move to Arsenal this month.
