Sources: Southampton work permit hearing today

Johannes Spors’ work permit hearing will be held on Friday (17 January) as he closes in on the technical director role at Southampton, sources have told Football Insider.
The Saints have reached a full agreement to appoint the 42-year-old German.
Southampton also held interest in Wolves recruitment chief Matt Hobbs but Spors is set to take the role, which was vacated by Jason Wilcox upon his move to Man United.
He is currently the global sports director in the 777 Partners group – who have stakes in Melbourne Victory, Genoa, Standard Liege, Red Star and Vasco de Gama.
Spors was previously CEO at Italian club Genoa and has also held a technical director role at Dutch side Vitesse.
Southampton issued a statement on Tuesday (14 January), revealing Henrik Kraft has stepped down as chairman – and replaced by majority shareholder Dragan Solak.
Solak said he has been "deeply disappointed with the football results this season" and revealed plans to revolutionise the football setup at St Mary’s Stadium.
Southampton close in on Spors appointment
Spors, who started his football career as an analyst at Hoffenheim and chief scout at RB Leipzig, is now set to lead the path forward for the Saints – who look certain for relegation to the Championship this season.
The south coast club lost 3-1 away at Man United on Thursday (16 January), meaning they still have six Premier League points after 21 games of the 2024-25 campaign.
Southampton have brought left-back Wellington to the club in a pre-arranged deal this month and completed 19 signings last summer.
Ivan Juric’s side are next in action against Nottingham Forest on Sunday (19 January).
In other news, Keith Wyness reacts to shock Southampton departure – “wow… disaster”.
