Stefan Borson: Liverpool have agreed big-money deals after new reveal

Liverpool players are earning "very big" wages after it has been revealed the club's total payroll increased last season despite their lack of Champions League football.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider several of the Merseyside giants' players could be on contracts where their salary increases each season.
Deloitte's 2025 Money League revealed Liverpool's wages rose from £373million in 2022-23 to £387million last season.
Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Roberto Firmino completed permanent exits in the summer of 2023, while several players also left the club on loan.
The Merseysiders made four new signings in the same window, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo joining for more than £140million.
Liverpool's overall revenue increased from £594million to a club-record high of £614million in 2023-24, having secured a third-place finish in the Premier League in Jurgen Klopp's final season at Anfield.
Liverpool players could be receiving annual pay rises
Borson insisted there is no obvious reason behind Liverpool’s wage increase last season.
"It's quite difficult to understand why the wages have gone up," Borson told Football Insider.
"It could well be that a number of players had automatically increasing amounts in their contracts, so at a certain point or maybe a certain age their wage increases.
"Year one of the contract it could be a certain wage, year two it's that plus 10 per cent, year three is another 10 per cent.
"But there is no obvious reason with Liverpool.
"There hasn't been a massive contract renegotiation or anything, but it's indisputable that they are big payers.
"Any sort of suggestion that Liverpool aren't paying right at the top of the European game is just not right.
"They are very big payers of their players."
