Liverpool managed to get over the line in their Champions League midweek encounter at RB Leipzig with a 1-0 win at the Red Bull Arena.

The Reds rode their luck at times against the Bundesliga side, but they did enough to triumph thanks to Darwin Nunez’s 27th-minute winner.

A long ball towards the back post saw Mohamed Salah send a clever header back towards the bottom corner, and Nunez reacted well to poke home.

Liverpool dealt with considerable pressure late on, but goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher duly kept the Reds ahead with some great saves.

The Reds are next up against fellow Premier League title challengers Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.

Although several key Liverpool players weren’t at their usual best in midweek, Pat Nevin believes they could explode against the Gunners.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah tipped to be at his best against Arsenal

Nevin, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, backed Salah to be at his best against Arsenal, though he said he wouldn’t be the only one.

Salah only received a 6 out of 10 rating from the Liverpool Echo and Liverpool.com, despite recording his seventh assist of the season.

“Liverpool will have to play better than they did at Leipzig,” began the former Everton winger.

“To play Arsenal, at their ground, they’re very tough, so Liverpool will have to step up from Leipzig, but I think they know that.

“When Liverpool got a bit of a fright after about 25 minutes, suddenly bang, they went up through the gears.

“That’s another thing about good sides, they still have gears to go through, and know when they have to go through them.

“Players like Mohamed Salah, they know that, if they go all in, all of the time, they won’t last the season.

“You didn’t the best of Salah at Leipzig, I suspect you might see the best of him against Arsenal, and he’s not the only one you can say that about.

“Liverpool are improving and will improve more, but their biggest test of the season [so far] will be Sunday.”

Mohamed Salah record v Arsenal

As per Transfermarkt, Salah boasts a solid record against Arsenal, registering 10 goals and two assists against the Gunners in 14 Premier League games.

All but one of those contributions came in Liverpool colours, though his first goal against Arsenal was for Chelsea, in a 6-0 win against the North Londoners back in March 2014.
